Word Wars: the pen is mightier than the sword

Word Wars. What are they, you may ask?

Wikiwrimo (which, by the way, I had no idea they existed until I did this research) says here that, “Word wars may be conducted with specific goals in mind… races to see who can write the most in the set amount of time, or simply a set period of time to write as much as possible in the Write or Die fashion.”

Basically, 2+ writers set a date and time and agree on an amount of time (start to finish style) and whoever writes the most words in said amount of time wins the “war.”

This is a great motivator to GET THAT FIRST DRAFT DONE, in my opinion. Does it make you sloppy while you write? Heck yeah, but you’re going to edit that sucker like 4,000 times so you just need to focus on finishing the first draft. Besides, experts say that writers who try to write their first drafts perfectly run a high chance of not finishing their manuscript. (True story, bro).

So what say I about Word Wars? Bring them on!

I want to get a decent draft (not first, but I’m not going to stretch so far and say the final draft) of THE WARLOCK’S AWAKENING (Book Three in The Witches’ Sleep Trilogy) completed by New Year’s Eve. I think I can do it, especially if I continue to do these Word Wars in my Goodreads Group.

I have the best Goodreads writing group. If you guys are interested in joining, it’s Year-Long NaNo. If you’re not friendly, don’t bother joining. We don’t want you. But if you’re a writer, encouraging, a good sport, then please! Come join us!

For anyone else, I challenge you to try out Word Wars with another writer. You’ll find out quickly how awesome it is!

‘Kay then. I’ve said what I wanted to say.

Love you guys to pieces!

Book Three Title Reveal! YAY! (seriously this time, I promise)

I know, I know. You don’t trust me so much right now thanks to the blog I posted about Book Three’s title reveal 2 weeks ago. But I promise, the title is revealed in this one!

For the last two weeks since I made the ultimate and final decision on the title for Book Three in The Witches’ Sleep Trilogy, I have had the absolute hardest time keeping it to myself. I want to just yell it, post about it, ask people if the title is catchy… or nah? (Can I say that or that unacceptable?) I have succeeded in refraining from spilling any of the beans, though! (Except for when I told all my family members and even a few friends. Then, of course, I made them swear through a blood sacrifice not to say a single word online or to anyone I had not approved of yet. And they zipped their lips shut (smart move).

I also thought long and hard about how I should reveal the title to you guys. I want it to be special, not just like: “Oh, the title is *blank*.” That’s boring. I’m not boring. I don’t like boring.

Finally, I thought to myself, “Hey, Kaitlyn,” (yes, I talk to myself in third person) “why don’t you make a banner that has secret book meaning behind the images? You can use this on your blog, for fun on Facebook, and even on your website. It’s a visual thing that other visual people like me will understand very well!” I love the visual stuff. Gives me warm, fuzzy feelings deep in my soul.

So, without further ado… Here’s the banner (or…what would you call this?) that I created just for you guys. (Yes, there are secret clues in it.)

The Warlock’s Awakening.

What are your thoughts on the title? Does it make you want to read it even more so than before? I hope so!

Next surprise coming soon: the (work-in-progress) synopsis of The Warlock’s Awakening. (Argh! It’s so awesome to finally say the title instead of “Book Three”!)

I just want to conclude this post by giving a huge shout out to the one and only Elisabeth Wheatley who came VERY close to guessing the title! Check out her comment on this blog post where I gave a super small clue about the title.

The Witches’ Awakening! ELISABETH! Stop almost ruining the surprise! 😛

See you guys next Friday!

With lots and lots and lots of love,

test - acx

I am so very excited to share this with you guys! I kind of feel like this is my way of making up for not being able to give anything while in Nursing School this year. The next installment in this trilogy hasn’t even been written yet, not even a little!

It makes me cry too. It really, really does. But, as I explain in the YouTube video I uploaded today, I need a stable job. And right now, writing isn’t stable.

Watch my video

I need money to be able to get my book into my hands, but I need a job to get the money, but I need education to get the job. Thankfully, I’m only a month from graduation!

I hope you guys enjoy the Audiobook! Be sure to share this with your I-prefer-listening-to-books-rather-than-reading-them friends/family, and let Melissa and I know how you liked it by leaving a review!

Love y’all,

had no where to put this in the post, but i wanted it in my post…. so it’s in my post.

Hi, Readers!

Sooooo…. I was thinking, “What can I do for my awesome readers for Halloween this year?” After much agonizing thought on the subject (actually I just thought about it yesterday, but I liked the way that sentence flowed), I decided I’d give you guys THE WITCHES’ SLEEP for the Kindle for FREE from October 27th to October 31st!

Also, I decided to give away ONE signed copy of THE WITCHES’ SLEEP.

I haven’t done a giveaway in SO LONG. I thought it was about time. 😉

Here’s what some had to say about THE WITCHES’ SLEEP:

The Witches’ Sleep is an exceptionally well-paced story, a pleasure that I rarely experience as an avid reader. I was truly immersed in my reading and connected with the story and its characters so well as if I was experiencing it for real. Ella or Sunlight is …. a very well-created character, and very vibrant with acceptable weakness and admired strength. Kaitlyn Deann is my new favorite author. I can’t wait for the next book form this remarkable author.” -Reviewed by Lit Amri for Readers’ Favorite

“Seventeen-year-old debut author Deann has written a political, moral and racial commentary on U.S. society in the guise of a fantasy novel. Told in the present tense, with short, sharp uncluttered prose and dialogue, the novel contains elements of great maturity. A remarkable, entertaining read and a useful political-awareness treatise for thinking teens.” – Kirkus Reviews

“This is a really original plot, well written. Witches inhabiting another planet as race; such a great concept. Character development is excellent and I personally enjoyed Tuck and Sea-Anna. The world building, crucial in fantasy-dystopian genres, is vivid and colorful. I look forward to reading more from this award winning author.” – Michael Dadich, author of THE SILVER SPHERE and THE SINISTER KIN

“The Witches’ Sleep is a well-written novel, offering strong positive messages while combining elements of science fiction and the supernatural. Kaitlyn Deann does an outstanding job of entering her main character Ella’s mind and sharing her thoughts and emotions. I found the world of Raena, and its sister worlds, to be interesting. There’s plenty of potential for exploration in future novels. All in all, Kaitlyn Deann has written a fine novel and will only improve with time. The gold medal that she won in the 2013 Readers’ Favorite International Award Show was well-deserved. I look forward to great things in her future.” – Tony Ross, author of VICTOR

In The Witches’ Sleep, Kaitlyn Deann weaves of tale of true love, social injustice, and care for others. When you read this book, you will find yourself wrapped up in adventure and stuck with the question, “What happens NEXT?” It is a pleasant surprise to find Ella, the main character, a strong female character. While Ella battles her own issues, she is kind, loving, and driven to do what is right. Deann weaves a new creative world that draws you in and won’t let you go! There are plenty of unique twists and surprises that I won’t tell you about because I don’t want to ruin the fun of it all. Kaitlyn Deann has done a wonderful job telling her tale in a clear, concise, and creative way. I can’t wait to see what she produces next, especially since the ending of The Witches’ Sleep leaves you overcome with a desire to read the next one and see what happens next!” – Vicki V. Lucas, author of TOXIC and RANCID

a1146-giveawaySo. How is this giveaway thingy gonna work? Well, I love Rafflecopter because it makes it easier to keep everything organized… So I guess we’ll just go with that. Good luck!

3D WOTBWorld of the Beasts

WORLD OF THE BEASTS is finally out!

Okay, so I know I haven’t been a very good blogger this summer, but you cannot be mad at me right now.

WORLD OF THE BEASTS is now available to purchase on the Kindle! For those who I know will ask: the paperback is not quite ready to be released. It still needs a few more run-throughs to make sure the formatting and cover is perfect. (I’m a perfectionist, what can I say?)

I can’t believe after TWO years I am finally able to give this book to you! I will be honest. There were moments that I didn’t think it would ever be ready, moments when it was hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. But, alas, I obviously did! And I am so glad I kept working at it!

I hope you guys love this book as much as I hated editing it (which was a lot of passion, by the way).

Also, before I let you go, THE WITCHES’ SLEEP (Book One in The Witches’ Sleep Trilogy) is FREE (yes, you read correctly; FREE) for the next five — 5 — days. But get it NOW before you forget (I always do that – forget)!

Story Visuals: Tuck…?

Story Visuals: Tuck...?

I found this on deviantart.com, and the first thing I thought was, “TUCK! IT’S TUCK WHILE HE’S ON APHALIE (world of the beasts)!” I got so excited about it. So, I thought I would share my excitement with you guys! The hair is a smidge too long and the eyes are odd in this picture, but OH WELL! This is the closest picture I have ever found to Tuck! YOU BETTER ENJOY.
