Blog Hop: The Next Big Thing

Huge thanks to Mia Darien for tagging me!

What is the working title of your next book? World of the Beasts. It’s the second book in The Witches’ Sleep trilogy.

Where did the idea come from for the book? It’s the sequel to The Witches’ Sleep, my debut novel, which deals with slavery. I wanted the second book to be a little different, so there is a new twist on slavery in World of the Beasts, although it isn’t new at all. I’m hoping it parallels human trafficking enough for the reader to catch it.

What genre does your book fall under? Fantasy.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? This is a hard one because I’m actually quite picky! Since it would take up too much of my time trying to find someone for several characters, I’ll just tell you who I would want to play Sea-Anna. I think Saoirse Ronan would be pretty cool for Sea-Anna.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? Two weretiger slaves are sold to the beasts behind their master’s back where they are faced with many hard trials.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? So far, self-published, but I’m looking for an agent to represent me.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? First draft? One or two months, maybe.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? I honestly have no idea. I’ve even asked several people to help me out on this one. They all say that the only book they can possibly think of is The Hunger Games, but then they all say it’s really not anything like that. They say it just leaves them with the same feelings that The Hunger Games leaves them with. My dad says that Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel by Michael Scott would be the closest thing he can think of that is closest to The Witches’ Sleep trilogy.

Who or what inspired you to write this book? I’ve always loved writing, and I’ve always loved weaving messages into my stories, so I suppose it’s the desire to flood teens and adults with good, thought-provoking morals that inspired me to write this book and the previous one.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? The main character goes through a lot of heartache but she learns to toughen up, thanks to some new characters. The reader will grow with Sea-Anna as she finds out who she really is and learns what it means to be strong. The reader will learn new knowledge that will leave them wondering late into the night.
