It’s been awhile since I posted a review on a book! Well, I really, really want to do a review for this one. It’s called STARTERS and was written by Lissa Price. First of all, she is an amazing author! As you can tell from the last sentence, this review is a high-starred review!
STARTERS is about a sixteen-year-old girl named Callie whose only family member she has left is her younger brother Tyler. He’s the whole reason Callie gets into the middle of what she gets into. (UGH! I don’t want to give away any spoilers but it’s SO HARD!) They basically live on the streets, running from marshals and hiding from “unfriendlies” because if you’re an orphan in this time period where humans between the ages of twenty and sixty (I think it’s sixty) are dead because of the Spore Wars, things aren’t too good for you. You get sent to these institutions that don’t treat the unclaimed minors right. It’s sad, really.
To make money to heal her brother who is sick all the time, Callie goes to Prime Destinations, a hush-hush organization that minors can donate their bodies to Enders (old people who want to be young again) and be paid A LOT of money for it. One day, Callie wakes up in the MIDDLE of a rental, which isn’t supposed to happen. Someone had tampered with her chip that is so deeply embedded in her brain that she will NEVER get it out. The chip is what connects the Ender’s mind to the minor’s mind. Suddenly, Callie realizes the person that rented her body intends to do more than “be young”. The elderly renter wants to assassinate someone. This freaks Callie out. She wants to go back to Prime Destinations to report it but the renter, whose name is Helena, warns her not to, because Prime is not a good place. Helena says that she’s the good guy here and Prime is the bad. Callie doesn’t know who to trust or what to do. It’s like she’s stuck between a rock and a hard place.
I love this book so much! I could hardly put it down from the moment I picked it up! There was not a dull moment EVER. And the ending? My eyes couldn’t read fast enough and it was so twisted, sad, happy and all emotions in between. This story was so beautifully executed and I can’t wait to get my hands on the sequel!
I think you guys know my rating. 🙂 5/5 stars!!!
